The Kitchen – November (part 1)

One of the most important rooms that we decided to get done is the kitchen. The existing kitchen is a long galley style kitchen at the back of the house so would need updating if it was to be used. However, there is an empty room which was used as a sort of laundry room but is a nice, square room so we decided to go for a new kitchen in there.
In some ways it is easier starting with a ‘blank canvas’ but in other ways it’s definitely more work as the services need to be added or redirected to the places that need them. The water was previously being run to and from the cellar on a fairly ad hoc basis so more permanent piping was needed.

This was the room beforehand which doesn’t really show the whole room, but gives an idea of what it is like (click on 3rd image as panorama). The fire place is great although not the gas fire which we will take out and possibly replace with feature radiator.

The kitchen needed a lot of work doing for the damp proof course. It is a messy job but great to get done.

Then the kitchen units were delivered. We went with Wren kitchens and on the whole, we have had a good experience. We have managed to get it ordered and the installation planned within a very short time frame.

The installation started on November 22nd and the first day was about getting the electrics and plumbing sorted then the units are fitted. The worktops (quartz) will be coming at a later date.

The boiler unit will go in after the central heating is installed. We are getting the fridge ourselves separately.
It looks great so far and is what we wanted. The oven, hob, microwave and dishwasher are integrated. The freezer is going in the cellar and the washing machine in the utility room.
