History of the house – General Gordon Inn

I posted some information about the house and three photos of it as the “General Gordon Inn” before we moved in.
I’ve been trying to find out more and find some information and photos of the house and of Claypath. We know that it was the General Gordon Inn from at least 1889 until the early 1980s when it was sold by Scottish and Newcastle breweries to be used as a private residence.
This is a photo of it in the 1950s. It is still very similar from the outside apart from the colour of the paint work – it’s now white instead of black.

I’ve been looking on Durham local history sites including facebook groups to find photos. This one shows the outside (down behind the bus and it looks like the brick work is unpainted on the side, but again very similar. It is in a conservation area, but not listed.

The facebook groups that I’ve found photos on are mainly “Durham City (Photo) History Group (also villages within its boundary)” and “Old Photographs & Memories of Durham City Michael Richardson”.
