I’ve been researching more about the house – the address 63 Claypath and also the General Gordon Inn. I’ve been to the library to access the censuses that are available and some directories such as Kelly’s, Post Office etc. I’ve also got some information that has come from local history groups on Facebook and other general searching.

This is the information that I have found out so far. When the house was first a pub or inn, it was the Duke of York and then the Kepier Inn and then the General Gordon Inn from the late 1880s. It seems that quite often the landladies or publicans were women. The census shows the different people who stayed there including carpet makers.
